Mexico Matters

With Mexico increasingly being inaccurately billed as a dangerous place to visit by the USA media, and with my contradictory perspective as an American living in Mexico and finding it paradise, I decided that it was time to help get the word out about the truth of this beautiful country.

The USA ranks #1 in total crime in the world with Mexico only at number #12 below Canada, the United Kingdom, France and many other countries. One can also see clearly that not only is the ranking interesting but the actual Amounts Column are incredibly different with the USA at almost 12,000,000 and Mexico at only 1.5 million. See the statistics page here.

Why then is Mexico being persecuted so brutally?

I've signed a petition that is circulating about, asking the presidents of the largest news organizations to moderate their reporting. The petition letter is below and if you agree that Mexico is being unfairly treated and feel like signing it too, please be our guest. The link to the petition is below as well.

Subject: Mexico Matters

Hi,

The reputation and image of Mexico is under attack by a negative corporate media campaign focusing almost exclusively on drug violence and US immigration issues. Relentless coverage of these problems is only increasing xenophobia, stoking racism, polarizing politicians, ruining international commerce, and imperiling the relationship between the US and Mexico. The world needs to hear the positive news of Mexico–which vastly eclipses the negative in relevance but not in coverage–to inspire these countries to work together to solve their mutual problems.

So I signed a petition to Roger Ailes, President of the Fox News Channel, Ken Jautz, President of CNN (Cable News Network), Phil Griffin, Presidents of MSNBC and Anne Sweeney, President of ABC News, which says:

"Moderate the US media's sensationalistic and damaging reporting on Mexico to promote a healthier relationship between these important neighboring countries."
