What is Here?

This town is in the heart of the Copper Canyon and where our The 3 Amigos offices are located.

It was named after the ex-governor, Enrique C. Creel in 1907. The train line was finally connected in Creel from the east and west sides in 1961. You can see a bust of Enrique Creel in the main plaza. The original name, given by the Raramuri, was Segorachi (place of the frogs). There is a fantastic view of the town at the Cristo Rey mirador on the hill that you can get to by walking from downtown and you’ll find an interesting church with neogothic type structures just off the main plaza.

All our private, in-depth day tours start and end here in Creel, with few exceptions and you'll find guided CAN AM ATV tours, bikes, scooter and motorcycle rentals in our offices here. Recowata hot springs is nearby, and Cusarare is just half an hour's drive. Rukiraso waterfall can be visited by bike, hiking, or ATV and the valley's area of the frogs, mushrooms, monks, Lake Arareko and San Ignacio Mission are also only a few kilometers away.
