Soak it Up in El Fuerte

Though the El Fuerte Amigos office has officially closed (due to lack of tourism and an effort to keep costs down), we've sold our kayaking and biking business to our neighbor Alberto Sanchez who owns a company called Chuchos Adventures. He will continue to offer the kayak trips and rentals at Amigo prices and has our Amigo stamp of approval.

Have an extra day in El Fuerte? If you don't, you should!

Kayaking down the El Fuerte River has never been easier. With several guided trips to choose from, you just can't miss out on this brand new excursion on the river. Bilingual guides, transfers included, all the equipment you need, a sparkling river with several rapids sections, birds, petro glyphs, peace and tranquility...what are you waiting for?

Full day kayak rentals for use on Lake Domiguez are also available.

KAYAK GUIDED TOURS

Short & Sweet:

For beginners or those that don't have a lot of time, we offer this Guided Kayak Tour down the El Fuerte River. Transfer to the 'put in' spot and transfer from the 'take out' spot is included as well as dry towels and cold drinks waiting for you at the end. Your Bilingual guide will escort you down river with a stop off at Cerro de la Mascara to do a short hike to see the petro glyphs there. Float serenely down the river and check out the interesting bird life that flies across your path.

There is one section of rapids on this trip but whether it is gentle or raging will depend upon water level as this river is controlled by Hidalgo dam and water levels fluctuate daily. Your guide will give you a safety talk before heading out and helmets and life jackets must be worn at all times. Duration time is ~ 3 hours, but varies by paddling speed.

You will be required to sign a Liability Waiver Release before your trip begins and please remember that you are 100% responsible for the gear in your possession during the trip and must pay for any damages or losses. You must leave a passport as a deposit on the equipment and it will be returned to you upon completion of the trip.

Cost is $40US per person, (minimum 2 ppl), with a Single Sit-on-top or Tandem Sit-on-top kayak.

Floating Peacefully

Rough & Tumble:

For experienced Kayakers, we offer this Guided Kayak Tour down the El Fuerte River. Transfer to the 'put in' spot and transfer from the 'take out' spot is included as well as dry towels and cold drinks waiting for you at the end. You and your Bilingual Guide will start out near the dam of Hidalgo and hit a succession of 2 rapids rather quickly. This should warm you up and get your heart racing. Float gently for a bit, visit the petro glyphs and then hit another rapid before calmly finishing your trip in the gentle waters once again.

KAYAK RENTALS

Want some fun in the sun on a calm and serene lake? Maybe rivers are not your thing or you have small children traveling with you that make you hesitant to head to the river. If this is the case, you can spend a lovely and peaceful day out on nearby Lake Dominguez with the family, a picnic and a few kayaks.

Lake Dominguez features a small hotel just on the bank of the lake where you can get in and out of the lake easily. There are tables, chairs, hammocks and restrooms at your service for a mere $2US (or $20 pesos) per person for the day or if you are going to make a full day of it, we recommend you pay the $25US (or $250 pesos) fee for a private room for the day with private bath where you can shower, read, rest or nap in between kayak outings with the kids.

If you don't have your own vehicle here in El Fuerte, not to worry...transfers to and from the lake are available for $15US ($150 pesos) extra per transfer. This includes your air conditioned vehicle, driver and trailer to carry all the goodies.
