BASASEACHI AREA
Highest waterfalls in Mexico
Basaseachi Falls is the highest waterfall in Mexico and it's located in Candamena Canyon, just about 3.5 hours from Creel. There is another nearby waterfall called Piedra Volada that is about a day's hike from Basaseachi. This waterfall is actually taller but since it does not have water year around, it really can't "technically" be classified as the tallest waterfall.
Candamena Canyon is a very cool canyon. It is the widest and has sheer rock walls that are amazing to see. The expansiveness of this canyon is what will really strike you.
We recommend you rent an Amigo Truck to see this area. There is a lodge here located inside the Basaseachi National Park called San Lorenzo Lodge. There are little cabins there for about $100US per night for a double. Hiking or horseback riding trips can be arranged at this Lodge and guides can be found here too.
Many people come from far and wide to rappel and rock climb up El Gigante. This is a HUGE flat faced rock facing Piedra Volada and is a favorite among outdoor adventure enthusiasts.
Tours can be arranged by our office in Creel or El Fuerte or with advance booking. Cost is roughly $210US for 1-6 people in a suburban.
