Day 1:
Drive from Creel to Batopilas to spend the next two nights, visiting many sights en route such as:
- Valley of the Mushrooms, Frogs & Monks
- San Ignacio Mission
- Lake Arareko
- Cusarare Village
- Cusarare Mission
- Loyola Museum
- Basihuare Canyon
- Copper Canyon
- Batopilas Canyon
Sleep at Riverside Lodge (open Oct.-May only) or Real de Minas tonight.
Day 2:
Visit:
- Lost Cathedral of Satevo
- Ruins of Hacienda San Miguel
- The old aqua duct for bird watching
- Stroll the streets to admire the old architecture
Sleep at the same hotel again tonight.
Day 3:
Return to Creel area today but stop in Cusarare, 30 minutes before Creel to sleep at the rustic Sierra Lodge Hotel and visit the Cusarare Waterfall. All meals included at this hotel as well as complimentary margarita's before dinner time.
Day 4:
Drive to Basaseachi Falls in Candamena Canyon, just 3.5 hours awayfrom Creel. Sleep at San Lorenzo Ranch tonight**, inside the Basaseachi National Park. Hike to the tallest waterfall in Mexico for the rest of the day. Meals on your own.
Day 5:
Return to Creel today and sleep at the Best Western Hotel in downtown Creel. Time for shopping or bike riding in the afternoon. Return your Amigo Truck tonight as you will take the train tomorrow.
Day 6:
Leave for Cerocahui today from Creel by taking the Chepe train to Bahuichivo train stop.The Best Western will drop you off at the station in Creel this morning. You'll spend the next two nights here at a comfortable lodge called San Isidro. All meals included as well as your transfers to and from the train station in Bahuichivo.
Day 7:
Today you will take a vehicle driven, guided tour to the village of Urique at the bottom of Urique Canyon. This trip will take all day long and includes a regional "discada" lunch prepared for you fresh by the river in Urique. Lunch will be served on tables with tablecloths and accompanied by wine, guacamole and tortillas. A "discada" is a Mexican style stir-fry that includes an array of meats and vegetables. It is cooked on a "disco" or wok type pot over an open flame.
Sleep at San Isidro Lodge again tonight.
Day 8:
Optional hike to Cerocahui waterfall today. Be sure to let your booking agent know if you want to add this trip in.
You'll be transferred to the train station and head back to Creel today. The Best Western Hotel will pick you up at the train station. Sleep at Best Western tonight.
**We are no longer including the San Lorenzo Ranch in our reservations package as they are very difficult to reach and we cannot guarantee reservations with them at this time. Please make your San Lorenzo Ranch or other Basaseachi area hotel reservations on your own.
A bit more detail
Day 1. You'll watch a slide show of the area you wish to visit, claim your Amigo Pack full of maps and info., and head off into the sunset.
Day 1:
Drive yourself through The Valley of the Mushrooms, Frogs & Monks, Lake Arareko, Cusarare Village and Mission, Loyola Museum, Basihuare Canyon, Copper Canyon and finally into Batopilas Canyon to stop in the old mining village of Batopilas at the bottom of the canyon.You will have included in your Amigo Truck Package, a picnic lunch with table and chairs so you can stop somewhere en route today and relax a bit while you enjoy the views and some great healthy food.
You should take the whole day to get to Batopilas and arrive around 5pmish. Spend the night in either the Real de Minas or Riverside Lodge Hotel (depends upon availability) in Batopilas. Meals on your own.
Day 2:
Today you'll either drive yourself or walk the 8 kms to Satevo to visit the Lost Cathedral. After this, you can either drive or walk to the ruins of Hacienda San Miguel, just across the river from Batopilas village. If you are still up for more adventure, then you should park and hike down along the old aqua duct to see some fantastic birds who live in the area such as; Trogans, Squirel Cuckoo, Mot Mot or Military Macaws. Sleep in Batopilas again. Meals on your own.
Day3:
Say goodbye to Batopilas this morning after breakfast on your own and head back towards Creel. You will stop in the Cusarare area at the Sierra Lodge Hotel to spend the night. Time it right so that you arrive at the Lodge at 1pm, in time for lunch. All meals included here as well as margaritas before dinner. After lunch, walk the 40 minutes to the waterfall of Cusarare. Then take your time relaxing in this wooded area of peace and tranquility. The Lodge does not use electricity, which adds to the charm of the hotel. The Raramuri Indians live and work in the area so you will have a chance to see them up close here.
Day4:
Today you'll drive to Basaseachi Falls, the highest waterfall in Mexico, in Candamena Canyon. The drive takes 3.5 hours from Creel and you'll arrive in plenty of time to do some hiking around this magnificent waterfall. There are trails that take you up above the falls for a bird's eye view and some that take you to the very bottom of it where you can feel the mist upon your face. Sleep tonight at San Lorenzo Ranch** in the heart of Basaseachi National Park. Meals on your own.

Day 5:
Return to Creel today at your leisure. You'll take another route back than the one you took to get to the waterfall so you'll see even more of the area. Sleep at Best Western tonight. Meals on your own.
Day 6:
Drive to Cerocahui today, just 3 hours away. You will drive through a beautiful canyon area to get there and spend the night in lovely hotel with all meals included. Margaritas are served before dinner tonight.
Day 7:
Today you'll drive down into the 2nd deepest canyon of the Copper Canyon system, Urique Canyon. The drive is only about. 1.5 hours but you'll want to be sure to stop off first at Cerro Gallegos to see the fantastic view. Visit the village of Urique today at your leisure, and return to Cerocahui to sleep again. All meals included. Ask the staff at your hotel and they will make you a box lunch to go, or you may decide to forgo the box lunch and try the local cuisine in Urique.
Day 8:
You can spend a bit of time this morning, after breakfast, doing a hike to the Cerocahui waterfall. Just ask for a guide at your hotel. Then drive back to Creel. Sleep at the Best Western Hotel. Meals on your own. You can turn in your Amigo Truck tonight so that you can get an early start tomorrow by either bus or train heading out of Creel.
